Edit a user
Update a user's contact details, role, user type, tags, work settings, and location access.
After a user is created, everything beyond name, email, and role is set from their user page. This is where you give someone the right access, mark them as a technician, tag them to a team, and limit which locations they can see.
Steps: open the Edit User screen
- Go to Admin → Users and click the person's name.
- On their user page, click Edit on the profile card.
- Make your changes (each section is described below).
- Click Save. To leave without saving, click Back to profile.
- Email: the address the user logs in with.
- Status: the state of their login, for example Valid. This is shown for reference.
Contact Information
- Name (required), Phone, and Phone Extension.
Authorization
- Role: what the user is allowed to do in Bricks. The main roles are Customer Organization Admin, Customer Location Admin, and Customer Employee. See User roles explained.
- User Type: one or more labels that describe the person's relationship to your account. Pick from the dropdown; click the x on a label to remove it.
- Tags: labels you use to group users, such as a team, shift, or region. Pick from the dropdown to add a tag, or click the x to remove one. Click the heart on a tag to make it the user's main tag; that's the tag shown next to their name when they post a note.
See Roles, user types, and tags explained for what each of these means.
Work Settings
- Job Function: what the person does day to day. Choose None, Technician, Manager, Dispatcher, Requestor, Vendor, or Other. This shows in the Job Function column of the Users table and can be filtered on.
- Standard Hours / Week: the hours this person is expected to work in a normal week. Bricks uses it to compare the hours they actually worked against the hours they're scheduled for.
Location Settings
Click Show Location Settings to open this section.
- Available Locations: the locations this user can access. Allow All Locations gives them every location in the organization. Choose specific locations to limit what they see.
- Default Location: the location that fills in automatically when this user creates a service request. Leave it as None if they work across several sites.
Tip: For technicians, set Job Function to Technician and add the tag for their team. That makes it easy to filter the Users table down to one crew and compare workloads side by side.
