Create work from the field: Create Work vs. Quick Start
One opens a form. The other creates a live request the instant you tap it.
The Create button in the Work view's bottom bar offers two options, and they behave very differently.
Create work opens the standard request form with you already set as the assignee. Use it when you're logging work that hasn't started yet.
Quick start creates a request immediately and puts you straight to work on it. Use it when you're already doing the job and want the paperwork to catch up.
Create work — fill in the form first
- On the Work screen, click Create in the bottom bar, then Create work.
- The Submit Service Request form opens with you already set as the assignee.
- Choose the Organization.
- Answer 1. What needs service? — browse that organization's locations and equipment to pick the target.
- Answer 2. What's Wrong? — the description, priority, and details.
- Click Submit request.
Two shortcuts sit at the top of the form:
- Need this to repeat? Create a Schedule instead → — for recurring work, use a schedule rather than a one-off request.
- ← Classic — switches to the older form layout if you prefer it.
This is the same flow as Create a service request, just pre-assigned to you.
⚠️ Quick start creates a live service request the instant you click it. There is no confirmation step and no form. Equips generates a request titled Quick Start Service Request, gives it a real SR number, checks you in, sets the status to In progress, and drops you straight onto the working screen. Only use it when you're genuinely starting work right now.
Quick start — work first, details as you go
- On the Work screen, click Create in the bottom bar, then Quick start.
- You land on the working screen with a yellow banner reading Quick started – add location and details, plus an empty Location card and an empty Equipment card. Your check-in clock is already running.
- Click the Location card. A Select location panel opens with a Scan Location QR Code button, a search box, and your location list. Pick a location — or scan the QR label on the wall, which is faster in the field.
- Click the Equipment card the same way if the job is tied to an asset.
- Add notes, photos, and parts as you work.
- Finish with Complete Job.
You must set a location before you can finish. Clicking Complete Job without one returns the error Please select a location before completing the job. Set the location as soon as you land, so it isn't the thing standing between you and the end of your shift.
Known quirk: after you pick a location, the panel closes but the card may still read No Location until the screen refreshes. The selection did save — reload the job screen and it appears.
Created a Quick start by mistake?
Don't leave it open with a running timer, and don't close it — closing records it as completed work and feeds it into your cycle-time and completion reporting.
- Click Check Out to stop the clock.
- Open the request. Use View/Edit Service Request from the job preview, or find it in Service → Service Requests by its SR number.
- Click Options in the top-right and select Deactivate.
The request is marked Deactivated and drops out of your working data without pretending it was real work.
